The Scar without the Wound and the Wound that did not Close: The Shoah and Jewish Victim Identity in Postwar Germany and in North America
When I moved from Berlin to New York in 1992, I was struck by the different ways in which Jewish survivors in Germany and Jews in North America lived in the aftermath of the Shoah and related to it. In this session, I like to talk about and discuss these differences and explore what the sacralization of the Holocaust and the cultivation of a victim identity might mean in the Canadian context.
