Two Heroines of Antiquity: From Byzantium to Post Modernism
The uniqueness of Italian smalto glass and the method required to execute a mosaic are appealing characteristics of mosaic art. In my contemporary mosaics of biblical heroines Esther and Judith, I portray a rejuvenation of two ancient stories through their retelling. Both are courageous women with strong allegiance to their people, both victorious despite all odds. As each of them displays opposite personality traits and different approaches to accomplishing their missions, I too, use different styles and methods for creating mosaics to suit their flip-side characters. My presentation will explain the reason for choosing a Byzantine style for the Esther mosaics and a more Baroque manner for the Judith mosaics.
